Book Blogger Hop – Owning Multiple Editions

Check out Book Blogger Hop!

This weeks question is – Do you own more than one copy of a book?

I do, I own more than one copy of several books because I just can’t help myself! But there are a few different reasons why I’ll own more than one copy of a book, so they can be split into three easy categories:

  • I own a kindle, and do ~80% of my reading on it. I travel a lot, the kindle is super portable. I also have a lot of hand pain so sometimes trying to get comfy holding a huge hardback book is just not a viable option for me. That being said, I still love a good, old-fashioned, physical book. So, if I read a book on my kindle that I particularly love, chances are I will eventually go and buy a physical copy to have on my shelf. To look at, to stroke, to sniff.
  • As a typical bookworm, I can never narrow myself down to one ‘favourite author’ or ‘favourite book’, but there are those authors/books who do sit a smidgen higher on my list than most. In these cases, I will own several copies of certain books purely because I am obsessed with them I want to. For example, I own three editions of John Greens’ Looking For Alaska. Kindle, Paperback, and the special edition 10th anniversary hardback. Same with Matt Haigs’ Reasons To Stay Alive – I have a dog-eared paperback version that lives in my ‘Bad Day Box’, I have a pristine paperback version that Matt signed, and I have the ever portable kindle edition. And I have plans of purchasing the hardback version eventually, just because.
  • Aesthetics is the final reason. Sometimes you just need a pretty book. Take Stephanie Garbers’ Caraval series, for example. The UK hardbacks are gorgeous on their own – But the publisher & Fairy Loot have announced that there is going to be a reprint on all the hardbacks with special edition covers. Do I need a second set of the trilogy? I do not. Am I going to buy it anyway? You bet your ass I am. For the same reason I am re-buying all the Harry Potter books each year as they are re-released for the 20th anniversaries, in house colours. I will not be happy until I have my full Ravenclaw set on my shelf looking all pretty. Plus, regardless of the book or author, I am a sucker for sprayed edges. I love them so much. I pretty much have a whole shelf of books with lovely coloured edges to brighten up my day!

When it’s books I love, I don’t mind occasionally splashing out and buying these shiny special editions. I love books and reading, and always have. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink very often at all, I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes or makeup. Everyone needs something to waste their money on, and books are my vice!

Do you own multiple copies of any books? Why or why not? Please let me know I’m not the only one slowly filling her house up with multiple copies of the same books!
