As her husband’s behavior becomes increasingly unstable, Isabella slowly realizes all the signs point to the fact he is not who he appears to be. Is he a respected Cardio-thoracic surgeon with a thriving Paris medical practice helping people? Or is he leading a double life which involves the international trafficking of black market organs? Greed, blood money, and psychopath are the terms she learns are associated with a man she thought she knew.

Forced to delve deeper into her husband’s secret life, she makes discoveries that will make her question everything she believed forcing her to face an impossible decision. She is desperate to uncover the truth, but once you know something, it can’t be unknown. The more she learns, the more she wishes she knew nothing at all.

When the sun dims, your second self shall disappear. Consequences not of her making were nipping at her heels. Tick. Tock.

Review

As I have come to expect from McGillicks writing, this book had me on the edge of my seat from page one. The whole situation is intense, leaving me constantly trying to figure out what the truth is, constantly trying to second guess what’s happening.

Isabella has gone from a confident, independent business woman who runs her own art gallery, to a shell of her former self, under the thumb of her husband and cut off from her business dealings in everything but name. Slowly realising something is amiss, she starts to dig deeper into her husbands stories, investigating what is going on and beginning the proceedings of a divorce. All with best friend Chloe by her side, providing much needed support and a voice of reason.

The characters are well written in this novel, with the sometimes naive Isabella, larger-than-life Chloe, and the dark manipulative husband that is Adrien and all his associates. What begins as a story that looks like some dodgy art dealing, it quickly spirals out of control into a much darker tale of murder, secrets and black market organ trading. Adrien doing everything possible to stop Isabella from waking up and realising what is really going on in his life, using lies, manipulation, mind games and even drugs.

Like any good thriller, this book is filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeps you up past your bedtime, desperately turning pages to see what happens next! I am so excited to start the next book, One, and keep your eyes peeled for my review of that being posted in a couple of weeks!
